Sun Flower is implementing a project named as Organic Agriculture since 1 January 2015. The project is implementing with the youth farmers (age between 18 to 25 years) groups, where the prevalence of toxic chemical use in agriculture sector is very prominent. Expected results from this project: use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides is reduced at least 25% among the targeted youth farmers; reptiles and useful insects are increased at community level; fish and bird sanctuaries are established and functioning. Negetive effect of chemical fertilizer will be reduced for human health and better environment for future geenretion.

Farmer’s demonstration on organic agriculture.

Project Objectives:

Objective 1: To enhance the capacity of the youth farmers on organic agriculture to protect and promote environment-friendly agriculture.

Objective 2: Establish sanctuary for fish and bird species to conserve from being endangered.

Vegetable production with organic fertilizers.

Major Activities of the Project:

  • Trained 100 youth (18 to 25 years old) farmers on organic pesticide and fertilizer production.
  • Facilitate to establish 20 demonstration plots on organic pesticide and fertilizer use.
  • Facilitate to develop entrepreneurs by producing organic fertilizers and market to other neighboring farmers.
  • Awareness raising on the use of organic fertilizer and harmful practice of chemical pesticides and fertilizers with 2,000 posters, 50,000 leaflets, and 100 court yard meetings.
  • Celebrating 2 events on World Environment Day with rallies and youth gathering.
  • Establish 8 Organic Farmer Field School (OFFS) and library with the youth farmers.
  • Initiate fish sanctuary in water bodies and rivers for regenerate endangered fish species and crustaceans.
  • Plantation of Bamboo trees in river side and road side to create bird sanctuaries for birds like herons, pelicans etc.

Organic lychee production.

Expected Results of the Project:

  • Use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides is reduced at least 25% among the targeted youth farmers.
  • Reptiles and useful insects are increased at the community level as an indication of improved biodiversity.
  • Fish and Bird sanctuaries are functioning to protect bird and fish species from to be endangered.
  • The negative effect of chemical fertilizer is reduced for human health and the better environment for future generation.
